AFTER 15 years in nursing and 14 months at the sharp end of the pandemic, Ciorstaidh Reichle says it’s time she and her colleagues had a better deal. The Inverclyde woman is part of the organising team for NHS Workers for Fair Pay Scotland, which rejects the Scottish Government’s 4% pay deal and seeks a 15% uplift for all healthcare workers instead. The group, which has 10,000 members on Facebook, counts involvement from all unions and argues that years of below-inflation raises have left some workers 20% worse-off than they were a decade ago. Next Saturday they’ll march to Holyrood and NHS staff from every Scottish health board are expected to join.
Unison said it had taken legal advice on possible equal pay action for NHS staff who are paid less for vaccinator work UNION leaders have ruled out pursuing equal pay claims for a disparity that has resulted in nurses earning four times less than dentists for administering Covid vaccinations. Independent contractors can earn up to £750 for a 12.5 hour shift while NHS staff take home around £150 for the same work. The situation is said to have created antagonism amongst NHS and private sector staff with accusations that those on higher rates have monopolised bookings. Unison said changes had been made to ensure nurses had greater access to shifts following pressure. However, the union said it had been advised by lawyers that equal pay cases would be technically problematic because of the comparator aspect and the fact there are multiple employers involved.

Staff at the TSB Cardonald branch requested the NHS employee to leave the premises after he mentioned he had been in contact with a Covid patient
AN NHS worker was made to feel like he “had a disease” after he was “kicked out” of a bank in Cardonald. Tony Brown was in conversation with a member of staff at the TSB on Paisley Road West, when he mentioned that he had been in contact with a Covid patient, as part of his job. The 33-year-old, who works as a porter in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, was then asked to leave the premises.
