Valley News - Forum, July 28: Surreal, vicious measures in NH budget

Forum, July 28: Surreal, vicious measures in NH budget Published: 7/27/2021 10:00:10 PM Modified: 7/27/2021 10:00:11 PM Surreal, vicious measures in NH budget Republicans in the New Hampshire Legislature remind me of the wolf in Little Red Riding Hood. They’ve hit on a clever disguise, and they’re on the campaign fairy tale trail. From behind grandma’s cloak they tell us they’ve secured our “freedoms,” lowered our taxes, helped public schools and protected us from the scourge of divisive concepts. It’s saintly. It’s selfless. It’s benevolent. And none of it is true. The state budget the wolf just passed (in the face of unanimous Democratic disapproval), is a gift to the wealthy and a vicious growl to everyone else.

Forum, July 24: Andy Sigler gave a big boost to NH agriculture Published: 7/23/2021 10:00:01 PM Modified: 7/23/2021 10:00:11 PM Andy Sigler gave a big boost to NH agriculture Andy Sigler, who died recently at the age of 89, was a big supporter of New Hampshire agriculture (“A titan for the little guy,” July 14). He was the CEO of Champion International Paper Co., and retired to Norwich to start a dairy operation in 1996. As a dairy specialist for UNH Cooperative Extension at the time, I helped with some of the design of the facilities, and Sigler was insistent on supporting UNH Cooperative Extension to return the favor.

Valley News - Forum, July 6: New Hampshire DOT is out of line by not repainting turn lanes

Forum, July 6: New Hampshire DOT is out of line by not repainting turn lanes Published: 7/5/2021 10:00:02 PM Modified: 7/5/2021 10:00:06 PM New Hampshire DOT is out of line by not repainting turn lanes Several years ago, when the two turning lanes were instituted from Heater Road in Lebanon onto Route 120, south a much-appreciated improvement cars often strayed from their lane and created a dangerous situation. After several emails to the Department of Transportation and local legislators and letters to the editor, curved stripping was finally put down. However, this wore off in less than two years and has not been refreshed. Now there is no evidence of the painted lane divider.
