RHS students receive first Tim Cook scholarships

By John Underwood / john@gulfcoastmedia.com ROBERTSDALE, Alabama Seven recent graduates from Robertsdale High School have received the first scholarships donated by Apple CEO and RHS graduate Tim Cook. The $7,500 scholarships were handed out during the school’s annual awards ceremony held Thursday, May 13 and included: “All of the recipients are really strong candidates and will be successful in whatever they do in the future,” said RHS Principal Joe Sharp, “and I am excited that they have gotten this opportunity.” Sharp said Cook reached out to him in February, wanting to contribute six to seven scholarships per year over the next 10 years while laying out the criteria for the scholarships, which include “grit, creativity, curiosity, academics and leadership.”

RHS holds 94th graduation

By John Underwood / john@gulfcoastmedia.com ROBERTSDALE, Alabama Robertsdale High School held its 94 th graduation ceremony on Tuesday, May 18 at J.D. Sellars Stadium in Robertsdale. Following the presentation of colors by the RHS Naval Jr. ROTC and National Anthem by Francheska Campos, Principal Joseph Sharp introduced guests and addressed students, faculty and family, along with Class President Maggie Davis and SGA President Hunter Theodoro. Sharp recognized students for academic and athletic achievement, including 25 honor graduates who earned a GPA of 4.0 or higher and three graduates who earned perfect attendance for all four years at RHS. He also recognized those joining the military following graduation, retiring teachers and memorials to a student, Chase Langham, represented by a single candle in front of the stage, and Robertsdale’s Teacher of the Year William Peck, who was represented by an empty chair in the faculty area draped in white with a tie.
