House Democrats Demand FBI Investigation into Parler’s Role as a ‘Facilitator’ in Assault on U.S. Capitol Jerry Lambe © Provided by Law & Crime The House Oversight Committee on Thursday demanded that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) conduct a “robust examination” of the role that right-wing social media app Parler played in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. In a three-page letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, whom President  Joe Bidenplans to keep in that leadership role, the Oversight Committee said the bureau should investigate the pro- Donald Trump platform “as a potential facilitator of planning and incitement related to the violence, as a repository of key evidence posted by users on its site, and as a potential conduit for foreign governments who may be financing civil unrest in the United States.”

Hall kevin.hall@gaflnews.com Jan 19, 2021 Jan 19, 2021 WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Two South Georgia men are among more than 125 people across the country who have been charged in connection with the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. Law enforcement was drawn to Michael Shane Daughtry and William McCall Calhoun Jr. due to their social media posts. Daughtry, 58, was identified as being from Pelham by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Macon, but he was identified as being from Baker County in the FBI affidavit that led to his arrest warrants. He is charged with entering a restricted building or grounds, a misdemeanor. He had his initial court appearance Friday, Jan. 15, and was released on bond with conditions, including internet restrictions.
