Cornelius (Con) Colbert was born in County Limerick in 1888 and educated at the Christian Brothersâ School in North Richmond Street, Dublin, the same school that produced Seán Heuston and Ãamonn Ceannt.

Although short in stature, he made a big impression as he rose through the ranks, from the Fianna scouts to Captain of F Company, Fourth Battalion, Inchicore. His personal life was dominated by his Catholicism, his love of the Irish language, and his abstinence from alcohol. (When asked why Irish rebellions always failed, Colbert would reply: âDrink and want of discipline and loose talk.â)

A MILESTONE birthday has been celebrated by a putting together an unusual display. The Penrith and Eden Museum has celebrated its 350th birthday by bringing together local children for an art project. The tree that sits outside the museum was dressed as part of project that involved children from the local school. They created wrestling belts that wrap around the tree, which were inspired by former Cumberland and Westmorland wrestling World Champion, William Jameson. However, the project wasn t without its challenges as a result of Covid-19. Eden Council, which manages the museum, said in a statement: Artist Karen MacDougall created the project working with Penrith and Eden Museum curators Sydney Chapman and Rebecca Short and all three classes of year five Beaconside Primary School and their teaching staff.
