we have our ballot initiative system where you can get a certain number of signatures and put anything to essentially all the state voters and that has then the power of law. and so that system is popular among california voters. i think there is going to be some discussion of the disconnect of what california voters see and the way that actually works which is the people with the most money can happen to the most motivated voter bases. i think that s something you see here. republicans in this race, conservatives, people who are frustrated with mask mandates and restrictions and frustrated with governor newsom for a variety of reasons are motivated to vote. the rest of californians may not know this is happening even if they support governor newsom or think he s done a good job. compare to 10/12 years ago when it was another governor being recalled and favor arnold

jason, it is important to understand the limits of law. will law play a role here? surely it will. it is clear that this law, sb-8 violates the constitution. it was drafted for the purpose of evading federal court review and having it being a adjudicat. it is some what susceptible to political pressure or at least mindful of those pressures. the law takes a long time. it is going to be a while before a challenge makes its way into the state s system. it does not matter because this law was drafted purposely to ensure that it would go into effect and it will cobble in texas. that s what s going to happen. even if this law is later declared unconstitutional, you can t unring this bell. we saw this in hb-2.
