this country illegally and unlawfully. he wants to work with congress. but they don t want to work with him. they have a choice here. they can work on behalf of the people. let s not forget so many of these democrats ran and won in trump districts by narrow margins promising to work with this president. not to be nancy pelosi s puppet like chuck schumer is and so many on the house side. the freedom caucus on the right, the problem solvers caucus that includes a lot of democrats have been to the white house to try to get something done. it is nancy pelosi and the leadership that s putting a stop to progress for the american people. bill: the president has expressed if you don t stop the investigation he wouldn t move forward with anything. that was about a week ago. an hour ago he said i think bob mueller is a totally conflicted person. a new never trumper. what does that mean based on what? he laid that out because of a business deal they had that went bad. he also said he wasn t g
house democrats to start moving forward reaching a fever pitch at this hour as president trump unloads on the former special counsel. welcome to a brand-new hour of america s newsroom, i m sandra smith. bill: are you all right? sandra: good. how are you doing? bill: i m good. it s thursday. i m bill hemmer. good morning at home. the special counsel suggesting any move against the president is up to congress that set off a reaction in the nation s capital when this went down. after that investigation, if we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so. nothing is off the table. but we do want to make such a compelling case, such an iron-clad case that even the republican senate, which at the time seems to be not an objective jury, will be content of the path that we have to take as a country. the bad news for democrats bob mueller is clearly wrong on every level with regard to
u.s. persons conspired or coordinated with the ira. of course that s the internet research agency in russia. which is it? well, i think bob mueller to his credit did there exactly what he was supposed to do, write the definitive narrative on how russia tried to interfere or meddle and whether or not the trump campaign participated. as he said, russia clearly did meddle but the trump campaign clearly did not conspire or collude and that s why he was not contemplating any charges, didn t charge a broader conspiracy. that s what bob mueller was supposed to do. the rest of the stuff 200 pages about potential charges for crimes that he didn t charge, that s exactly what he wasn t supposed to do. that s exactly what a prosecutor isn t supposed to do. sandra: jerry nadler is still accusing the president of
obstruction. what bob mueller did, whether he intended to or not, was to turn american jurisprudence upside down. to take the standard of innocent until proven guilty and reverse it. it falls to congress to respond to the crimes, lies and other wrongdoing of president trump. we will do so. make no mistake, no one, not even the president of the united states, is above the law. there were no surprises. he repeated what was already in the report. that there was no collusion. and that he was doing what we expected him to do after this investigation was completed. he said it was completed, case closed. he is shutting down his office and moving on and going back to his private life and we think it is great he is doing that. bill: where to now? complete coverage begins now. our headliner for the white house hogan gidley standing by. we begin with mike emanuel in
bill: want to show you the markets yesterday. we were off significantly yesterday. got the trade fears that caused a bit of a sell-off yesterday and when we were watching the bob mueller thing unfold in front of us we saw it drop 300, 350, maybe as far as 400 points at one point. sandra: some were saying it was uncertainty over where this mueller statement was going because it was selling off during that. a lot of this is trade as well. a little bit of a relief rally. bill: had a bounceback in the afternoon, too. what does it mean? guess for yourself, right? sandra: good luck with that. bill: we re awaiting vice president mike pence s travel to canada. he is working on a trade deal to replace nafta. he will meet with justin trudeau. watch for that. sandra: busy morning. president trump: why didn t
