Attorney general eric holder has announced that the new Justice Department initiative aimed at Building Trust between local Law Enforcement and the civilians they serve by providing training. He said the effort is a response to what happened after the Police Shooting in ferguson misery last month. The attorney general discussed the new initiative at the Justice Department last week. This is the group im charged with examining sentencing disparities and developing recommendations on how we can address them. What made me start feeling right, frankly, when the leadership came out saying the president has all the authority you need, i was weary that we would not get a vote on this. When the president started in august and i call the team to ask what is going on, are you going to bring this to a vote and it was unclear, i did not think it was going to come to a vote. After the president s speech to wednesdays ago, senator menendez who has been asked if the president and his authority and he said, let me hear what the president has to say and i will tell you. When he heard the president speech say this is clearly openended, with senator menendez, senator durbin new has been public that we have to have an authorization vote both in leadership. The inspiration is everywhere of a different way of doing things. See, earlier on i mentioned gareth, who works at a software company, whos worried about his daughter and worried about the future. I didnt just meet him, i met his colleagues as well. And that software company, the thing that shines through about it for me is it is full of bright, savvy young people, full of great enthusiasm. There is a Clear Strategy and plan in relation to that. Personally, i think that a lot more work needs to be done on what exactly the route map is in syria. Those are the particular issues that i raise in relation to syria. I want to make some progress with my argument, if the house will allow me. Isil is not simply a murderous organisation. As the Prime Minister said, it has ambitions for a state of its own a caliphate across the middle east, run according to its horrific norms. And values. That is why i believe, and established in the first part of my remarks, that we cannot simply stand by against the threat of isil. In acting against it we need to learn the lessons from the past. We should be clear about this with the british people. That means a comprehensive strategy humanitarian and political, as well as military, and, crucially, rooted in the region.
