for me, i d check the soccer ball for listening devices and never allow it into the white house. joining me now is chris dickey, veteran journalist for the daily beast here with me in helsinki. chris, your response? well, i think in front of the whole world right now, we witnessed the collusion of donald trump and vladimir putin. that s really what we were looking at. however you want to interpret it. was trump taking direction from putin? absolutely. had he met for two hours and ten minutes with putin and is there evidence he didn t really understand what was being discussed, that he department really have any background on the issues being talked about? absolutely. you can when putin came out, he articulated one after another point after point and anybody who knows the history and environment for the various issues, whether syria, ukraine,
but individuals from those five muslim majority countries on the list were ven ezuela none wee involved. if you match up the map of the ban i said i meant to say north korea, not north carolina. if you match up the map to that list you put up, they don t match. you can see that. the administration will make the argument that places like syria, iran, yemen, somalia, north korea, they do still pose a threat to the national security of the united states. but you are right to point out that those terrorist attacks, the ones you listed there, clearly, this travel ban wouldn t necessarily have done anything to prevent those specific attacks. while i have you, primaries tonight. what are you looking for? i m looking for the trump sway ability here. he went down, the president did, to south carolina yesterday for
because it s subjective, i doubt they will be able to get themselves off the list. list. t he wants them off that the humanitarian situation in many of the countries, especially syria for example, maybe half a million people have been killed in the civil war over past several years, is certainly dire. are you planning on taking action to make sure that the most vulnerable people in these countries can still get waivers to enter the united states as refugees? of course. the decision just came down today. of course, we re going to make a push for that. also, i think it s notable, the united states gives a lot of money to help refugees. compared to other countries, we also don t comparatively speaking, we don t take in as many refugees as other nations. we ask many nations to take in refugees from places like syria and other war-torn countries. we have to step up and do the same and offer a refuge to people who are in nations that
i don t believe anybody will be able to stop the president from his tweets. it s his style. again, what i m hoping is he has counsel. and we do the right things, that is working with our allies, verifying that, you know, exactly who caused this before we take any military action. i understand. listen, i m responding to your sanguine response to this. do you think a tweet like this escalates whatever the tension is with russia about syria? i don t know how you can escalate beyond the use of chemical weapons and the support for the criminal regime, the assad regime. i don t know how it gets worse than that. the civilized world needs to react, but we need to react together and with the proper information. do you read this, the president says get ready, russia because they will become nice, new, and smart, that thereby a u.s. missile launch this week? no, not necessarily.
why do you need more of a plan right now if the american people don t want their treasure increased at all in that region? one of the issues of legality of force, this is something to what happened in kosovo. they were going to veto whatever we were going to go through the united nations. so we went through nato. it was a multilateral action. i think there is press department in trying to figure out how else to respond. syria is not part of that alliance? no. but it doesn t it s us working as nato partners or with some other organization that is multilateral. so i just use kosovo as an example. but i do think the following aspect is this is not brand-new. there are many different problems that actually started a long time ago but very
