house, but let s start with alexandria hoff who s tracking the races in three key swing states. reporter: hi, mike. let s start in pennsylvania, dre once-sizable lead that john fetterman once held. on tuesday the two are going to hold their first and only debate putting fetterman s health in focus. he spoke earlier today. you know, we had a stroke back in may. and it really [inaudible conversations] and despite all that, i survived to be back. reporter: fetterman will be relying on closed captions during the debate. oz has questioned whether fetterman is well enough to perform job and will likely have to appear not insensitive on stage. another toss-up, georgia s senate race where senator raphael warnock is facing off against republican candidate herschel walker. this week former president obama will rally support for warnock and for stacey abrams. the former president will also head to detroit to campaign for governor gretchen whitmer who leads tudor dixon although b
mcswain and businessman dave white. but we do have a projection to make in the democratic governor s race. and cnn projects pennsylvania attorney general josh shapiro will be the democratic nominee for pennsylvania governor. shapiro coasts through uncontested. he will face the winner of the republican gubernatorial primary in the fall. dana bash, shapiro is counting on having a republican candidate, republican competitor whom he can easily paint as extreme. absolutely. he s already starting to do that. we should note that josh shapiro announced that he s positive for covid so i m not sure that we ll actually see him tonight. but jake is exactly right. he became a national figure during the time between november, the november election and when the inauguration happened because as the attorney general in pennsylvania, he was very aggressive about pushing back against gop efforts to overturn the election there. depending on who he has as his opponent, he might be fighting that
yeah. and let s step back for a minute. they can t do it without 10 republicans agreeing to do it. at the beginning of the senate session, in january of this year, they adopted rules, rules are negotiated between the majority and minority. adopted by the senate and govern the legislative session for the next two years. the only way to change that two ways to change it. one is to ask for unanimous consent she step off the committee, aslated her to be on. and have everybody agree with that if everybody doesn t agree 60 votes in order to change that rule. that s the longstanding procedure in the senate. unless the 50-some odd democrats, depending on whether fetterman is there and whether dianne feinstein is there and so forth and so on. you have to get 8 or 9 or 10 republicans to vote with you. the republicans have made it clear they are not going to do this. they do not want to have that agreement carefully negotiated and agreed upon and voted upon

martha, good afternoon. no major issues to report from polling sites statewide, which is good news. we have reports of strong turnout in western p.a. and here in ben salem, north of philadelphia. they tell me here at this polling site it s been very good and steady turnout. 312 million has been spent on this senate race. the most expensive in the country. it all comes down to today. it s expected to be a very close race. dr. mehmet oz and john fetterman, the lieutenant governor, cast their ballots this morning. fetterman had a double digit lead all the way till about late august when dr. oz challenged him to multiple debates. fetterman refused to debate and to release his medical records. things took a turn after both candidates agreed to do one debate two weeks ago. a debate that led to more questions about whether fetterman was fit for office following his stroke in may. last night both candidates reminded voters what is at stake
