Today in history: Appeals board denies nudists; court is next

May 13, 1921 The Michigan Supreme Court has adopted verbatim as its own the opinion handed down by Judge Fred S. Lamb of this city on the constitutionality of the Covert Road Act. The case was argued at Lansing on March 30, last, and the decision is contained in the Northwestern Reporter for May 6, which just has arrived in this city. Judge Lamb, who is known among his associates on the bench as one of the hardest working and most conscientious jurists in the state, is frequently assigned to important cases by the presiding circuit judge of the state. Probably no other circuit judge in the state gets in as many weeks of work outside his own circuit as does Judge Lamb of Cadillac and yet the dockets in all his own counties are kept as clear as possible. In Detroit, particularly, Judge Lamb sits frequently, and the busy Wayne County circuit is a test, many upstate judges failing to stand the pace there. Today in history: Jury finds Cadillac Wendy's not liable for patron's injuries

April 28, 1921 The City Commission last evening granted permission to Carl L. Maurer to use the street in front of his store for the temporary storage of building materials during the construction of a contemplated brick structure to replace the present wooden building, where he is now located. Fred McConnell was given a building permit for a cement block potato and produce warehouse to be built west of the Ford garage and near the railroad. Several new arc lights were recommended by the general manager to be placed in the following locations: intersection of Haring and Thirteenth streets, near the fairgrounds; Linden and Arthur streets; 60 candle-power incandescent lamps will be placed at Haring and Ford streets; in the alley at the rear of the Old Odd Fellows Temple; at Wallace and River streets and at Cedar and Hersey streets.
