Wetumpka, Alabama, might not be high on your list of vacation sites, but the picturesque city in Elmore County is worth a visit.
Nestled along the Coosa River, Wetumpka has a welcoming spirit and charm aplenty especially now, as it’s being featured on the HGTV series “Home Town Takeover.” Ben and Erin Napier of “Home Town” are helping to put the often-overlooked city back on the map, supervising 12 renovation projects that include restaurants, shops, houses, public spaces, a farmers market and a downtown street.

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) along with affiliates Autauga Area Community Foundation (AACF) and Elmore County Community Foundation (ECCF) on Thursday, May 6th announced Family Wellness grants for 29 nonprofits totaling $146,003.10. Funds from these grants will go directly toward assisting many within these communities.
Family Grants ($23,446.85)
$5,439.20 to the YMCA of Greater Montgomery – to provide five lessons of Safety Around the Water training to 420 Montgomery Public Schools third graders
$13,007.65 to River City Church – to provide a permanent shower unit and washer and dryer for its Loads of Love initiative that provides a place for the homeless to shower and launder clothes at no cost

This year’s draft will feature 259 picks over the course of seven rounds.
Wetumpka native Brandon Kennedy is hoping he will be one of those lucky 259.
“Looking back from about five or six years ago when I first got into college to now, it has been a heck of a journey, and I’m blessed to be in this position now,” said Kennedy.
What a journey it has been for offensive lineman.

U.S. News & World Report has released its annual rankings of the best high schools in the country. Once again, Montgomery’s magnet high schools are listed as some of the nation’s best.
The report shows that LAMP (Loveless Academic Magnet Program) is ranked the top high school in Alabama. It is the 14th ranked school in the country.
The report notes that LAMP offers Advanced Placement courses and exams, which 99% of students take. It says 99% of students graduate.
Elsewhere within Montgomery Public Schools, Booker T. Washington Magnet School is ranked 7th in Alabama and 800th in the nation. It has a graduation rate of 100%. Brewbaker Tech Magnet School is ranked 19th in the state and 1,610th in the country. It also has a 100% graduation rate.
