Special to the Crier
The Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland went big for Earth Day 2021 by restarting the tradition of giving each first-grader in Weston and Wayland a tree seedling for Earth Day. This year, the club also distributed seedlings to each second-grader in both towns since the program was canceled last year due to COVID-19 school closings.
The count of seedlings distributed this year is 800, and almost 1,500 since the inception of this project in 2018.
Mark Messina, Rotary Earth Day Committee chair, said, “We are very fortunate to have such great leadership in our schools. Every principal responded quickly and enthusiastically to our program.
