A Westland woman pleaded no contest after authorities allege she stole $470,000 from the Michigan Department of Treasury and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Sophia Quill, 63, of Westland, pleaded no contest to one count of conducting a criminal enterprise and eight counts of false pretenses for defrauding the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Michigan Department of Treasury out of nearly half a million dollars.
Kelly Mays had survived domestic abuse herself years ago and even turned toward helping other survivors. Her daughter found her stabbed to death in her Westland apartment last week.
