Cape Town hijacker killed by cops following hectic shootout
Two hijackers were stopped in their tracks overnight, as one of the suspects was shot dead following a gun battle with police officers.
Quick-thinking cops in the Western Cape Flying Squad have been lauded for their bravery on Friday, after they took on a pair of hijackers near Khayelitsha. The dramatic shootout took place in Lingelethu West, leaving one suspect injured and the other fatally wounded. The surviving carjacker will soon appear in court.

With serious and violent crime high on the agenda, members attached to the Western Cape Flying Squad conducted crime prevention patrols in Lingelethu West overnight. Their attention was piqued by a Kia Picanto, previously identified as a ‘wanted vehicle’ by law enforcement officials. Attempts to pull the men over soon turned violent, however.

Cape Town - Police arrested a 28-year-old woman and her partner for the possession of a firearm and ammunition, only to discover that the vehicle the two were in was a stolen Mercedes-Benz, snatched from a house in Camps Bay earlier this month.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut said: “Two suspects are scheduled to appear in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court once charged. The suspects, a man and a woman, were apprehended by the Western Cape Flying Squad, while driving from Somerset West on the N2, when members on patrol spotted the car the pair was travelling in, a silver Mercedes Benz.

The members followed up on information of a stolen white Chevrolet that was driving in Goodwood and after searching the area they spotted the vehicle with five occupants. The driver of the vehicle sped off in an attempt to evade their arrest when a high-speed chase ensued. The suspects shot at the police who retaliated. Four suspects were shot and wounded and were transported to the hospital under police guard for treatment. Police confiscated two prohibited firearms, ammunition, and the vehicle that was reported stolen in Muizenberg.
