Rotary announced Phoenix Award winners

WHIZ News Rotary announced Phoenix Award winners MUSKINGUM COUNTY, Ohio- The Rotary Club held its annual Phoenix Awards this morning. Eight local high school students were chosen and awarded with a $1,000 scholarship towards their future education and advancement.  “It’s a way for us to celebrate kids that have overcome perseverance through all kinds of different adversities in their lives… Who have managed to get beyond that, find success in their life and achievement and be able to become strong adults and succeed in life,” Phoenix Awards Committee Chair Mike Snode said. The ceremony started out with an introduction from Mayor Don Mason. Recipients attend with their family members and school administrators and teachers.

Tim Gagliardo, Kellie Hayden joining ZHS administration

ZANESVILLE - After a year of unprecedented circumstances due to the pandemic, Zanesville High School has named two new administrators. On Wednesday evening, the Zanesville City Schools Board of Education unanimously voted to hire Zanesville resident Tim Gagliardo to take the helm at ZHS starting next school year. Kellie Hayden, who works in Washington County for Warren Local Schools, will be the director of human resources and curriculum for grades 7 through 12. Gagliardo will be leaving his freshman principal position at Gahanna Lincoln High School one of Ohio s largest high schools to work at ZHS, Gagliardo s hire fills the position in the high school s top leadership role after former principal Laura Tompkins left in 2020 to take the same position at West Muskingum High School.

Local News Briefs: Philo students streaming comedy from their homes Staff Report Philo students streaming comedy from their homes PHILO - The drama department of Philo High School will present the comedy The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon from 7 p.m. March 19 to 7 p.m. March 21 via online streaming.  Students used technology and video editing software to rehearse and perform the show entirely from their homes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They play mixes up well known fairy tales such as Cinderella, Rapunzel  and Snow White to provide zany fun for all. Tickets are $8 for an individual or $15 for a family and are available at philodrama.weebly.com.
