Several thousand tourists, who got stranded owing to inclement weather and landslides since Monday, have also started travelling back to Siliguri, which is the gateway to Sikkim, Darjeeling hills and Dooars region.
Authorities have confirmed that as many as 52 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile, parts of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal witnessed heavy rainfall on Wednesday.

Thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall are likely to affect some parts of the Jhargram district of West Bengal during the next 1-2 hours, as per the Indian Metrological department on Monday.
