To counter the low level of people living with HIV in Central African Republic (CAR) on treatment, the country has been testing new treatment approaches. One is distributing up to 6 months of medicine, known as multi-month dispensing. The other is community ARV dispensation. Underinvestment in the HIV responses of low- and middle-income countries was a major reason why the global targets for 2020 were missed.
