The Supreme Court has restrained Tripura Police from taking any action against four students who had posted on social media against the alleged communal violence in the state last year.
The state police had registered FIRs against several lawyers, journalists and residents for putting up posts on the violence that took place in October.
A day after a series of clashes between the supporters of Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party rocked Tripura s capital city Agartala, Union Minister of State Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik on Sunday alleged that hooliganism and violence are inherited in Congress s DNA.
The Supreme Court on Monday posted for hearing on January 31 a plea seeking an investigation by a special investigation team (SIT) into the recent communal incidents of violence in Tripura.
The four have alleged that they were forced to strip in a police station, and their videos were released to taunt them. Police said they were held because they couldn't give 'satisfactory replies' to why they had cross-dressed.
