also an individual, a woman, that is more than abundantly qualified. all these litmus tests or criteria that some republicans are beginning to insinuate. let s make sure we re consistent with how they ve treated prior supreme court justices under prior administrations. let s not have a double standard here. whoever the nominee is, she deserves better. she deserves respect. and she deserves a professional confirmation hearing. certainly weren t calling for a consensus pick to unite the country when trump put forward his three supreme court picks. i do want to ask you quickly about this new reporting of trump s handling of white house records. documents that, by law, are supposed to be preserved. we know now maggie haberman is reporting that trump literally flushed papers down the toilet. cnn reporting that records of trump s phone calls during the january 6th riot are missing from the white house documents
leadership. but when you ask for specificity in terms of what they want to see, aside from hearing some drone strikes, there s not a real appetite for troops on the ground. but how this ties into domestic politics, to me, it seems what s happening in iraq to what is hurting president obama in terms of being the competency issue. a lot of folks in the united states do not feel he s competent any more. is that the drag on him moving forward politically that this is so far from his control, it will drag down him and the party heading into november? i think you re right, luke. this is an event where the republicans were speaking, it s the faith in freedom forum. but there were no real they weren t calling for anything. it was mainly just something is wrong in iraq and it s the latest thing obama has done wrong. i think that s what you re going toer what going forward is a lot of complaints, not about the policy. in fact, rubio was asked on the hill a while ago about congress s role and
year people weren t buying and customers weren t calling and banks were not lending. but even in the face of these obstacles, even in these tough times all across the country there are people like rick and dennis and ruth and will who haven t given up. you guys wake up every day and seek a way to safely navigate these troubled waters, to fulfill your obligations to your families and to your employees and to your customers. and in that determination and that resolve, you embody what s best in america, and you keep making america stronger. next week congress will start debating many of the jobs proposals i ve outlined today and in recent days. many of the proposals to benefit small business. many of the proposals to spur hiring. if there are additional ideas from either party, i m happy to consider them as well. but what i hope, what i strongly urge is that we work quickly and
