Denver Neighborhoods With Most Violent Crimes in 2021

The news isn t all grim. Violent-crime rates have declined over the past four years in some Denver neighborhoods, including Whittier, which has registered just six violent crimes so far this year, compared to 28 in the first half of 2017. But violent crimes in many other neighborhoods are well ahead of the pace from 2017. In Civic Center, for example, there were 25 violent crimes between the start of 2021 and April 19, just one off the 26 counted in the first six months of 2017. Here are the stats for every official Denver neighborhood, ranked from lowest to highest crime density the number of violent crimes per square mile so far in 2021. Also included are comparisons to the figures for the first six months of 2017; the names of neighborhoods with more violent crimes so far this year appear in bold, while four others with an equal number are italicized.

Rent deferment extended again for some tenants in city-owned buildings

Rent deferment extended again for some tenants in city-owned buildings BizDen file photo) For the fourth time, and now extending beyond a year since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city of Denver has created relief for some of its tenants through rent deferment. At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, the body passed without objection or comment a measure that extends the length of the rent deferment for seven leases in city buildings through at least 12 and as many as 15 months. It’s the third extension of a measure that was originally introduced last spring and passed May 6, 2020. The businesses are the Subway in the Justice Center Garage and the one in the Webb Building on Colfax; Coffee Etcetera in the courthouse; Dazbog Coffee in the Webb Building; the Russell’s Convenience in the Webb Building; Pizza Republica at the Denver Convention Center; and Wellshire LLC, which operates concessions on Wellshire Golf Course.

Which Denver neighborhoods got hot in 2020? Courtesy of MLS) It’s no secret that Denver’s housing market had one of its most competitive years in 2020. Home prices skyrocketed, thanks to low interest rates and inventory. But what neighborhoods truly had a breakthrough in 2020? Places like Wash Park and Cherry Creek have been scorching hot for decades. But a new report compiled by Land Title Guarantee Co. provides some insights on the neighborhoods where the housing market was most different last year than 2019. Landing in the top five were a couple of transitioning neighborhoods that offer a relatively affordable price point without getting too far from downtown, as well as a handful of traditional residential enclaves that lack the name brand of Denver’s ritzier neighborhoods:

Denver COVID-19 Hospitalizations Double in Most Neighborhoods

On October 20, no Denver neighborhood had a hospitalization rate of more than 5 per 100,000 people. Now, 23 of them do. For example, Capitol Hill has gone from 12 hospitalizations to 26 per 100,000, Belcaro from 0 to 13, Marston from 6 to 23, Hampden South from 12 to 39, and Central Park (formerly Stapleton) from 23 to 56 and that s just the beginning. COVID-19 s disproportionate impact on communities of color is very clear in these new stats: Both Gateway/Green Valley Ranch and Montbello have seen more than 100 new hospitalizations in under two months. Montbello s total has increased from 127 to 273. See where your neighborhood ranks (entries are in ascending order of hospitalization rate):

Denver Neighborhood COVID-19 Case Rates and Odds of Catching Virus Update

For months, we ve regularly reported on the number of COVID-19 cases across the Mile High City as tracked by Denver Public Health and the increase over the past month or so has definitely been the largest to date in most locations. Cases in many neighborhoods have doubled or even tripled, making it ever more difficult for the average resident to avoid coming down with the novel coronavirus. DPH shares the data on its Denver COVID-19 Data Summary page, which is updated by 6:30 p.m. daily. As of late December 10, the agency calculates 41,624 COVID-19 cases and 592 deaths in the city. Among the key statistics is the viral case rate per 1,000 individuals. According to Denver Public Health spokesperson Jennifer Fine, this figure is determined by calculating the number of people infected with COVID-19 during a specific time frame relative to the total population of that geographic area. If you see a case rate of 200/100,000 thousand, that means that for every 100,000 people that live
