COLOMBO (News 1st): The Niraviya Grama Seva Division in the Wariyapola police jurisdiction and Nikadalupotha Grama Seva Division in the Wellawa police jurisdiction were placed under isolation with immediate effect on Friday morning (Apr. 23).
The two areas were isolated taking into account the high-risk in the spread of COVID-19, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, the Head of the National Operations Centre on Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) told News 1st.
Thereby, the Army Commander requested the residents in the areas that are isolated, to NOT leave the respective area and to NOT travel to other areas.
He also urged people NOT to travel to the areas that are put under isolation.

Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka again, a request has been extended from the Public Health Inspectors Association.
Association Chairperson Upul Rohana has requested that travel restrictions be imposed during the upcoming weekend. He has extended the request, noting that if action is not taken, the number of COVID infections reported could be increased by twice or thrice.
Meanwhile, Army Commander Shavendra Silva stated that Niraviya Grama Niladhari Division and the Nikadalupotha Grama Niladhari Division in the Wellawa Police Division in the Kumbukgate Police Division in the Kurunegala District will be isolated.

Addressing the media, Government Medical Officers Association Editor Haritha Aluthge stated that in comparison with the rest of the world, the risk of coronavirus in Sri Lanka is rising.
National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak stated that from the 655 patients identified yesterday (13), 444 patients were identified from the Colombo District, which is the highest group of COVID patients reported from a District.
From the Gampaha District, 75 patients were identified, while 41 patients were identified from the Ampara District and 19 patients were identified from the Kalutara District.
The Government Information Department stated that the remaining 90 patients were identified from the rest of the country.
