GURKHA families and soldiers based at Catterick Garrison are calling on the Government to help relieve the tragic humanitarian crisis in Nepal which has been struck down with a second wave of coronavirus as the Indian variant wreaks havoc. Clinical Epidemiologist Dr Jagannath Sharma based at Catterick said the scenes of hospitals being overwhelmed and patients struggling to get help in Nepal are: extremely heartbreaking and unbearable. He added: We appeal to all MPs and councillors to lobby the UK government to provide immediate vaccines and other support. North Yorkshire including Catterick Garrison, York and surrounding areas have strong links with serving and ex-Gurkhas whose families in Nepal are directly or indirectly affected by the crisis unfolding in the country. It s estimated there are around 150,000 Nepalis living in the UK.

GBP/CAD Exchange Rate Dips as Rising Oil Prices Boost Canadian Dollar
The Pound Canadian Dollar exchange rate dipped today as the ‘Loonie’ has continued to benefit from upbeat Canadian economic data. A mixture of rising oil prices and rising Canadian wholesale sales for March has provided a boost for the Canadian Dollar. The pairing is currently trading around CA$1.70.
The Canadian Dollar has remained strong this week after Canada’s wholesale transactions beat forecasts and rose by 2.8% in March.

Kenya’s presidential lockdown in the five ‘diseased counties’ has helped reduce Covid-19 infections, according to health experts and government officials, but fatalities remain high.
Experts are also warning of a fourth wave due to mutations and that Kenyans should not lower their guard on the face of increased fatalities despite numbers of infections and hospitalisations reducing.
President Uhuru Kenyatta locked the most affected counties on March 26 and “currently, we do not have pressure on the healthcare system as witnessed in early March and April, where patients in critical state were struggling to secure ICU beds,” said Patrick Amoth, the Director General of Health.
