Scots told to submit SACGS claim by 31 March deadline

Scots told to submit SACGS claim by 31 March deadline >More in © FLPA/Wayne Hutchinson/Shutterstock Claim forms for the Sustainable Agricultural Capital Grant Scheme (SACGS) must be submitted by the end of the month, even if farmers have been unable to purchase all their approved items. The pilot scheme, made available to farmers in Scotland last year, provides grants worth 50% of the standard cost of a predetermined list of livestock management and precision-farming equipment. Grant offers worth nearly £18m were sent to more than 3,500 farmers in early December. Just days later, the Scottish government was forced to announce that because of extended lead times in the supply chain, farmers were to be given extra time to get eligible equipment on farm.

Brexit uncertainty halts animal feed supplies >More in © FLPA/Wayne Hutchinson/Shutterstock Animal feed shipments to Northern Ireland are being delayed because of uncertainty over post-Brexit certification rules, say farm suppliers. The Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC), which represents UK suppliers with an annual farmgate value of more than £8bn, issued the warning in a briefing note to its members. This includes shipments of various products from Great Britain to the EU and Northern Ireland. The most urgent issues could result in significant harm to UK farm suppliers unless they are quickly resolved, warned the AIC. Among the most pressing issues is ongoing uncertainty over whether export health certificates are needed for livestock feed containing certain processed animal proteins.

Exporters warned over post-Brexit wood packaging rules

Exporters warned over post-Brexit wood packaging rules >More in © FLPA/Wayne Hutchinson/Shutterstock Farmers and growers who export or import produce from the European Union (EU) have been warned to check that wooden pallets and crates meet post-Brexit standards. Since 1 January, all wood packaging materials (WPM) must be heat-treated and marked according to the ISPM15 international standard. Any business that does not comply could face shipments being rejected and, in some cases, fines. The AHDB warned that all WPM would be subjected to checks in Europe. The ISPM15 certification is designed to keep out pests and fungus to prevent the spread of foreign species, the AHDB said. It applies to all countries outside the EU customs union and both exporters and importers must be sure they comply.
