Graduate students help train Georgia Southern University Police on communication disorders July 13, 2021 Officers in the Georgia Southern University Police Department (UPD) now have more options for improving police interactions with individuals impacted by communication disorders thanks to graduate students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDS) program in the Waters College of Health Professions.  Nine students led 12 officers and one UPD support staff through training at the RiteCare Center for Communication Disorders on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah.  “In addition to working with law enforcement, students gained valuable insight on how to prepare their future clients to interact successfully with law enforcement,” said Tory Candea, SLPD, clinic coordinator at the RiteCare Center.

The University will hold six commencement ceremonies for a mix of undergraduate and graduate students from each of the University’s 10 colleges. The commencement ceremonies on May 8 will be held at the Savannah Convention Center at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. for undergraduates and graduates from each of the University’s three campuses who prefer to attend a ceremony in Savannah. The remaining four ceremonies will take place at Allen E. Paulson Stadium on the Statesboro Campus on M
