Snow contributes to Waterloo collisions

WATERLOO — Snowy weather played a role in two collisions Tuesday, the Waterloo Marshal’s Department reported. Running through a stop sign led to a crash Tuesday at 8:06 p.m. Police said Ashley J. Farver, 34, of Ashley was traveling northbound on Center Street when an eastbound vehicle driven by Kenneth P. King, 29, of Avilla entered the intersection at Walnut Street without stopping for a stop sign. Farver told police she tried to stop, but her 2014 Chevrolet Malibu collided with King’s 2011 Ford Edge. King told police he saw a “stop ahead” sign, but the stop sign was covered with snow. Police cited him for a violation.

AUBURN — Local police officers arrested 12 people from April 12-19, according to DeKalb County Jail records. Jason Walden, 33, of the 700 block of East Tipton Street, Huntington, was arrested April 12 at 3:11 p.m. by the Auburn Police Department on a DeKalb County warrant alleging failure to appear for a probation violation hearing. Joshua Miller, 36, of the 900 block of Lane 210, Hamilton Lake, Hamilton, was arrested April 13 at 1 a.m. by the Auburn Police Department on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; possession of a syringe, a Level 6 felony; false Identity statement, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

One hurt in crash near Butler

BUTLER — An Angola man attempting to retrieve his cellphone was injured when his vehicle went off the road west of Butler Monday afternoon, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Aaron R. Loffer, 37, suffered facial injuries and complained of chest pain from his seat belt, police said. He was treated at the scene by Parkview DeKalb EMS medics. The crash occurred at 2:41 p.m. Loffer was traveling west in the 5700 block of U.S. 6 when his cellphone fell to the floor of his 2012 Chrysler 200 and he attempted to retrieve it, he told police. Police said as Loffer was able to grab his phone, his vehicle traveled into the eastbound lane, off the road on the south side of U.S. 6, and struck railroad crossing and stop signs on C.R. 57.
