Warren manager supports increase in school subsidies

WARRENTON — A county property tax rate of 81 cents per $100 of assessed value will remain right where it is if Warren County Commissioners go along with the budget request they’ve received from County Manager Vincent Jones. The manager’s fiscal 2021-22 budget request asks commissioners to approve $36.1 million in general-fund spending, about 3.8% more than the current fiscal year. Jones among other things proposes giving the Warren County Schools $250,000 more in local operating subsidies, a 5.2% increase on the $4.8 million in aid the county provided for 2020-21. If commissioners agree, the school system will receive just over $5 million for operations in the upcoming fiscal year. The county government also supplies an additional $649,000 for repair projects, construction and a few other things, and those allocations would remain right where they are.
