Former MCSO deputy Gullberg picked for Gresham police chief
Travis Gullberg, Multnomah County Sheriff s Office veteran, takes reins in August.
The city of Gresham has selected a candidate who grew up within the community to lead the police department after a nationwide search.
On Monday morning, July 12, the city announced the hiring of Travis Gullberg to serve as the next Gresham Chief of Police. Mr. Gullberg has worked with Gresham Police for many years through his role at the Sheriff s Office, said Deputy City Manager Corey Falls. He brings years of law enforcement experience, a passion for community engagement, and a dedication to building community trust to this position.

Dr. T. Allen Bethel, a longtime Portland pastor and civil rights leader, has died. He was 67.
The reverend’s family announced his death on social media Monday. The cause wasn’t disclosed, and funeral arrangements are pending.
Bethel pastored the Maranatha Church in Northeast Portland’s Sabin neighborhood for 26 years, according to the church, and most recently held the title of pastor emeritus. He was also president of the Albina Ministerial Alliance, which works to assure oversight of the Portland Police Bureau.
Bethel was hailed by the Skanner News as “one of the most influential civil rights leaders in Portland history.” And Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said he “was a strong and eloquent voice in Portland who brought grace and wisdom in his work for justice and a stronger community.”

The life and legacy of longtime Portland religious, community and civil rights leader Rev. Dr. T. Allen Bethel will be celebrated Wednesday.
