really done unusual things in releasing information and telegraphing his moves. clearly putting him off stride. how difficult is it for the agencies to keep doing this as the war progresses? well, i think it s the clear intention of the biden administration to push out as much intelligence as a possible to expose what russia is doing inside ukraine. and so, if there s intelligence available about russia s plans and intentions to use chemical biological agents against the local population, i think the biden administration, and i know intelligence community leadership, would be very inclined to release that information as a way, once again, to reveal what russia is doing. they don t want to compromise their ability to continue to collect intelligence. but at the same time, i think they feel there s an overwhelming need at this point to be as transparent as possible
yeah. so will it be enough, though? there is still hesitation on a couple of fronts. the first one is how far should sanctions go. companies like germany are opposed to sector wide sanctions on oil and gas. they obviously rely a lot on russian energy. and then there is disagreement on whether or not militarily to impose a no-fly zone because of the risk it carries of a direct confrontation with russia. as this war progresses, are we likely to see those positions come closer together? i m more confident on the sanctions front, on sanctions or embargo on oil and gas, because here i think the more we see this war targeting civilians, vladimir putin bombing hospital, killing many innocent ukrainians, the pressure will mount also in the european union. citizens in europe are very
lot of information can be imparted, but does teaching in this form not suffer from being done, at such a removed way. it must inevitably, but it is better than nothing. we are watching a huge humanitarian crisis, a terrible historical crime, and we feel helpless, and at least we must try to do what we can. how is it being received by the medical practitioners, the professionals? well, my colleagues have got back to me and say they re getting some help and they want an abbreviated version they can download themselves, and the foundation at the moment is looking into ways, how we can distribute this as widely as possible. but of course, as the war progresses, the internet fails and i just heard that the hospital in the middle of
author of the book super power interrupted, the chinese history of the world. mike, thank you so much for being here. as you put it in your piece, china is too integrated into the global economy to risk being sanctioned itself. as we watch the west slap russia with sanctions, do you believe that china is second-guessing its relationship with russia? it seems actually as this war progresses, china seems to be taking a more pro-russia position, which is the opposite of what you d think they d be doing. when the war first started, china was trying to somewhat walk a line to appear that they were neutral, that they weren t taking a side. but now you see the chinese government kind of openly repeating russian propaganda, for example, about the supposed american biolabs in ukraine. so it seems right now that china is kind of all in with russia.
