Illinois Coronavirus Updates: State Tops 1 Million Cases, Chicago Public Schools' Plan to Return

Suburban Football Star Dies in Apparent Suicide; Family Says COVID Worsened Depression A top student athlete at Glenbrook North High School died Thursday in an apparent suicide just months before graduation after his family said the teen s struggle with depression worsened significantly during the coronavirus pandemic. Dylan Buckner, 18, was found unresponsive at the Deerfield Embassy Suites Thursday afternoon, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner s office. Deerfield police confirmed they were called to the hotel. Buckner s father, Chris Buckner, said the teen had been battling depression the last few years but his depression worsened significantly after COVID hit. The family believes that had COVID not happened, or the country s response to COVID had been more effective, Dylan would still be alive today, Chris Buckner wrote in a statement, adding we are really, really going to miss him.

Alden Estates of Naperville holds its first COVID-19 vaccine clinic

Updated 12/30/2020 7:39 PM In partnership with Walgreens, Alden Estates of Naperville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center held its first COVID-19 vaccine clinic for residents and staff today. The clinic vaccinated more than 100 of its staff and residents with the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. We are pleased to be able to offer the COVID-19 vaccine to our residents and staff, said Robert Molitor, Chief Executive Officer. Our residents have a much higher risk for getting sick, being hospitalized, or dying from COVID-19. Our caregivers live in the community where the virus continues to spread, and yet despite the circumstances, they continue to risk their lives caring for our most vulnerable. This vaccine has been shown to provide a great deal of protection against the virus and will save many lives.

Jefferson woman celebrates 106 years of living and credits a love of dancing

JEFFERSON — At 106, Neoma Mathison takes pleasure in simple things. She enjoys salt on her eggs — she keeps a special shaker in her room — and getting her hair done. And, she said, she loves to dance. Neoma celebrated her birthday in November. The occasion was marked by a large gathering of family members who appeared at a window at Alden Estates where she lives — a short-term rehabilitation, transitional care and post-acute services facility. They were there to wish her well and take part in her special day, facility Activities Director Lanita Leatherberry said. The occasion was celebrated through a window to keep Neoma and other Alden Estates residents safe from COVID-19.
