Mark Zuckerberg Has Bought Another 600 Acres on Kauai, and Hawaiians Are Pissed
Adding to their already significant land holdings on the Hawaiian island of Kauai, Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan recently closed on another deal adding 600 more acres on the island.
The $53 million deal, just now coming to light, happened in March, and as The Hill reports, the couple purchased the land from a local nonprofit focused on conservation called the Waioli Corporation. Combined with the 700-acre property that Chan and Zuckerberg bought in 2014, they now own 1,300 total acres on the island, or about two square miles. It s not clear whether the new land is adjacent to their existing property, or separate, but it appears to be very close by.

Mia Brier, a native Hawaiian, is calling Zuckerberg “greedy,” for suing Native Hawaiians who own property near his $100 million estate on the island of Kauai. Over a million people have signed a change.org petition started by Brier.

“Mark Zuckerberg is the sixth richest man in the world… and he is suing Native Hawaiians in Kauai for their land so he can build a mansion. They have built lives there. They have built families there. Hawaiians are already mistreated enough as is. We need to let them have this,” shared Brier.
When it comes to real estate, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has an extensive portfolio. He owns a $7 million home in Palo Alto, California, a $59 million Lake Tahoe compound, and recently the tech mogul has had his eyes set on Hawaii. According to a March deal that’s just been made public, Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, closed on 600 acres of land on the Hawaiian island of Kauai for $53 million, Mansion Global reports.
The land, located in the northeastern part of the area, had been owned by the Waioli Corporation, a local organization centered on conservation. This isn’t the first time Zuckerberg has purchased property on the islands: In 2014, the duo reportedly acquired 700 acres of land for over $100 million, which has been in dispute, as parts of it were known to be granted to native Hawaiian families in the mid-1800s.
