Zoning, more classrooms and new layout in pipeline for high school

Martin De Ruyter/Stuff Motueka High School principal John Prestidge says six new classrooms will kick off an “exciting” expansion and rebuilding project at the school. Pictured in front of two temporary classrooms, set up onsite in response to a continued rise in the school roll. Plans for six new classrooms, further expansion and an enrolment zone are underway at Motueka High School, as student numbers climb. Principal John Prestidge said development to cater for up to 1000 students included an “exciting” re-structure of the school, that would better connect students to their community and diverse career paths. After roll growth of 5 to 8 per cent a year, for the past five years, the school was nearly full, with 740 students, Prestidge said.

Giants prepare to tip off 40th anniversary season

The 10 teams play each other twice in a home and away format, with the season culminating in a Final Four playoff in July. For the Giants, it means a return to the Trafalgar Centre and playing before their loyal fans after an almost two-year absence. The Giants will take to the court with a typically local flavour to their roster, spearheaded by talismanic veteran Sam Dempster, who returns for his 13th year in blue and white having missed the curtailed Auckland-based 2020 season due to work commitments. The former Nayland College rebound magnet will bring his usual brand of leadership, hard work, and smarts to the court, while former Waimea College star Tom Ingham will look to build on an impressive 2020 where he footed it with some of the top Kiwis in the league.
