The Yukon government has gone to court saying Minto Metals, which abandoned its mine near Pelly Crossing in May, owes about $2.5 million in unpaid royalties. The territory becomes the fifth claimant since Minto closed its copper mine to file court documents saying the company has outstanding debts.
Over the last month, three different contractors have filed documents to the Yukon Supreme Court saying Minto Metals has unpaid bills for services rendered at its abandoned copper mine near Pelly Crossing, Yukon.
Minto Metals closed its copper mine last weekend. Former employees say they got little notice and have had to pay their own way home, all while struggling to get the money they’re still owed.
