A CTA worker is accused of brutally beating a man and tossing him down the stairs of a downtown subway station, where he was found by police and later.
The man was pronounced dead at the LaSalle Street station after the worker, Emmett Richardson, called 911 and falsely claimed the man had overdosed, prosecutors said.
Emmett Richardson, who works for the CTA, allegedly beat and dragged a man around a downtown station before calling police for an "unresponsive person." When emergency personnel arrived, Richardson said he had seen the man surrounded by drug paraphernalia and believed the man had overdosed.
The victim of the attack, a 54-year-old man who has not been identified, was found unconscious about 4 a.m. on a stairwell landing at the station, police said.
