Virginia City, Nev., once a boomtown responsible for producing more than $700 million in mined gold and silver ore from the Comstock Lode, is today primarily driven by tourism. A celebration of life for former Carson City Mayor Marv Teixeira will be Friday, June 20, 11:30 a.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 North Lompa Lane in Carson City. Teixeira died June 5, 2014. He was 79. A reception will follow at Eagle Valley Golf Course, 3999 Centennial Park Drive in Carson City.
Janice R. Ayres, a tireless advocate for the elderly and the disabled, an unshakable Democrat and former member of the Carson City Board of Supervisors died Monday morning at Carson Tahoe Hospital after battling cancer. She was 92. Ayres was the executive director of the Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program, a position she held since 1979.
