Samsung and telco companies Vodafone and Orange have completed the first 4G calls over shared commercial networks in rural Romania trialed on Open RAN.
MWC Americas had some advancements in 5G and Open RAN, but it also highlighted that the industry is on a different and much slower path than many initially expected.
Samsung is supplying virtualised and open RAN network equipment to power Vodafone's 2,500 mobile sites in Wales and South Wales in England by 2027.
