Effective March 1, Airmen and Guardians overseas tour lengths are now 36 months for first-term unaccompanied permanent assignments at certain overseas.

Medical-grade face masks will have to be worn in public facilities on Ramstein Air Base and other Air Force installations in the Kaiserslautern area starting next week, the 86th Airlift Wing said Thursday. FFP2, KN95, N95 or medical-style surgery masks will be required when visiting “the Base Exchange, all shops and food court areas; the Ramstein and Vogelweh commissaries; the Ramstein Shopette, Post Offices, and the Ramstein Law Center,” 86th Airlift Wing commander, Brig. Gen. Josh Olson, said in a memorandum. Medical-grade masks also will be required in houses of worship, the memorandum said. Cloth masks with at least two layers of fabric may be used in other base facilities, the memorandum said.

RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany Alongside a sign that said “COVID VACCINE,” a line of about 50 people waited outside the Southside Fitness Center Annex early Friday in freezing temperatures before the doors opened at 9. Air Force medical officials said they expected to vaccinate several hundred people during the three-hour shot clinic, which was open on a walk-in basis to select personnel.
. Kaiserslautern Elementary School in Germany will close its classrooms Monday and Tuesday because of a coronavirus case, the school’s principal wrote in a letter to parents. Affected students will be switched to remote learning from Wednesday to Dec. 18, according to the letter from principal David Groat. Teachers will contact families Tuesday to discuss how they will proceed with remote learning. Officials expect in-person instruction to resume after winter break on Jan. 4. The school is working with public health officials on contact tracing, and those who are deemed to have been in close contact with the person with coronavirus will be notified by health officials.
