NEA Supports 19 Rural Communities Through Citizens' Institute on Rural Design

Washington DC In its ongoing support of rural America, the National Endowment for the Arts announces the communities taking part in this year s  Citizens’ Institute on Rural Design™ (CIRD). This national initiative has two components: workshops and a peer learning cohort. Four workshops across the country will bring together local leaders and residents with design professionals to work on a local design challenge. The members of the peer learning cohort come from 15 communities as diverse as Skagway, Alaska and Manchester, Georgia. All CIRD awardees represent communities with populations of 50,000 or less.

Women, People of Color Usher New Political Era in San Diego By Marielena Castellanos It’s a new day for women and people of color in San Diego politics, as newcomers step into elected positions throughout the County. Jill Galvez, who has lived in Northwest Chula Vista for more than 26 years was recently elected to the Chula Vista City Council to represent Council District 2, which has some of the City’s oldest neighborhoods including the historic downtown Chula Vista and the Bayfront. Galvez commented on why she decided to run for office, “Chula Vista is the best place on earth to live, raise a family and retire. I am determined to work hard for our community to make good things happen and make our neighborhoods proud.”

(KOLD News 13) - Sierra Vista City facilities will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 25, in observance of the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day holidays. Facilities will also be closed on Friday, Jan. 1, due to the New Year’s Day holiday. Trash pickups scheduled for Friday, Dec. 25, and Friday, Jan. 1, will shift to Thursday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 31. Thursday pickups will shift to Wednesday both weeks and no special pickups will be available on either Wednesday.
