Cebu cooperative partners with pork producer to help its livelihood program

Published January 20, 2021, 5:00 PM A cooperative in Pinamungajan town, southern Cebu has partnered with a leading pork producer company to help its livelihood program become more sustainable. Composed of more than 100,000 members with 29 satellite offices in Cebu, the Lamac Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LMPC) inked a partnership with Virginia Farms Inc., which will offer a buy-back scheme that will benefit the members of the cooperative who are into hog farming. Through the partnership, Virginia Farms will supply LMPC members with feeds through their Virginia Feeds brand and will also buy the farmers’ hogs upon harvest at a guaranteed price. The LMPC has received P20 million from the livelihood assistance program of the Department of Agriculture. The LMPC can lend the funds to their members who are already into agriculture-related livelihood or to those who plan to start one.

DA7, LGUs, private sector holds corn varietal derby in Asturias, Cebu

Published December 18, 2020, 5:00 PM The Department of Agriculture (DA-7) with the Cebu Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO), Local Government Unit (LGU) of Asturias, Cebu and Virginia Farms Incorporated conducted the corn varietal derby in Asturias town in Cebu 1st week of December this year to showcase corn production of various corn varieties. DA-7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado said that the corn derby is a tri-partite sectoral collaboration among government, LGUs and private companies to help uplift the lives of the farmers in Cebu. The 4.5 hectare corn derby area is owned by Virginia Farms showcasing seven different high yielding corn varieties from three private seed companies Syngenta Philippines Inc., Bayer Crop Science Inc., and Corteva Agriscience.

Published December 15, 2020, 5:00 PM With its vast fertile land, the municipality of Asturias in western Cebu is aiming to remain a top corn producer in the province as it targets to cater to the high demand of yellow corn, which is a main ingredient in producing animal feeds. In the recently concluded “Corn Derby” hosted by Virginia Farms, Inc. and Asturias Farms, Inc., Asturias Mayor Jose Antonio T. Pintor said the municipality has been known to be the top producer of yellow corn in Cebu but its production was still not enough to meet the demand of yellow corn in the province.

Asturias is known as a major producer of yellow corn in Cebu, but its production is not enough to meet the demand in the province. / SUNSTAR FILE + December 11, 2020 THE municipality of Asturias wants to address the high demand for yellow corn, which is a main ingredient in animal feeds. “Our soil is good for yellow corn and with that, we would like our farmers here to cultivate more of that crop, especially that Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia has encouraged the production of yellow corn,” said Asturias Mayor Jose Antonio Pintor, in a recently concluded Cord Derby hosted by Virginia Farms Inc. and Asturias Farms.

4:28 is your time now. it is 66 degrees. more storms rolled in last night. will we get more rain? we ll find out in a moment. first, good morning to you. i m eun yang. and i m aaron gilchrist. in our headlines now. one person is dead after a wrong way crash in stafford county, virginia. that accident happened yesterday along route 16 in stafford lakes parkway. witnesses saw a pickup truck suddenly speed up and cross into oncoming traffic. that truck crashed head-on into another truck. the driver of that truck died. the wife of a man who was brutally attacked near eastern market is speaking out about the incident. thomas nosslin was jumped last month. three men attacked him, stole his iphone, and savagely beat him. the men robbed three other people later that night, but police caught and arrested him for those robberies. police found four phones when they arrested the men. one of the phones belonged to maslin, but only a few days ago police connected them to the attack
