How Our Amazon Trucking Investigation Came Together

One of my favorite things about being an editor is watching other reporters in action. I’m routinely amazed by their techniques and perseverance, both of which are necessary to produce excellent journalism. Paris’s efforts around her five-month investigation into the safety of Amazon’s highway trucking expansion were nothing short of impressive. And since I enjoyed the very small part I played in her journey (shared much more by her wonderful editor, Nick Wingfield), I thought I would reveal some of it to you by interviewing Paris.  You may be surprised to learn how these stories actually come together as well as the issues we’re still trying to pin down.

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   A ledge stabilization project on Route 9 in Woodford began last week, according to the Vermont Department of Transportation. The work is taking place just east of Dunnville Natural Road in Woodford, about 2.9 miles east of the Bennington-Woodford town line. Motorists will begin to see minor activity within the work zone this week, but the work is not expected to have an impact on traffic, the department said. The project is expected to be completed in the fall. BENNINGTONThe town of Bennington has issued the following project list for the coming week. As always, please remember to use caution, as workers and equipment may be in the roadway.

Better Places Partnership awards nearly $130,000 in grants for eight communities

Grants awarded to Barton, Ludlow, Middlesex, Northfield, Rutland, Springfield, White River Junction, and Wilmington. Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Community Foundation (VCF), the Agency of Commerce and Community Development (ACCD), and the Better Places partners have awarded $129,275 to eight placemaking projects. These grants will help communities reimagine and reopen public spaces for safe dining, shopping, and recreation, while showcasing the state’s unique sense of place. “Better Places grants are an important tool in our toolbox to help revitalize our communities as we recover from the pandemic,” said Governor Phil Scott. “I want to thank the Vermont Community Foundation, the National Life Foundation, the Vermont Arts Council, the Preservation Trust of Vermont, and the Vermont Department of Health for their work on this program as we support improvements in towns and villages across the state.”

New England, Northeast Start Digging Out From Winter Storm Orlena The Weather Channel 2/2/2021 Ron Brackett After hammering much of the Northeast and leaving some areas with up to three feet of snow and others with coastal flooding, Winter Storm Orlena bore down on New England on Tuesday. The storm forced officials to close COVID-19 vaccination sites for a second day, but other services started to return to normal. Several more inches of snow were expected in northern New Hampshire, but roads in the southern part of the state were clear for the most part, WMUR reported. Aboveground subway service resumed in New York City. The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad also began running again Tuesday morning.
