Rail trail, all other questions, approved in Manchester

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   MANCHESTER — Manchester voters approved everything including the budget, rail trail, a fire truck and the library funding. Without a floor vote and everything being handled with Australian ballot, the Town Meeting Day produced one of the largest vote tallies in recent memory with close to 1,200 votes cast. And voters were in a generous mood, approving all funding requests including the $5,979,211 budget, by a vote of 937 to 205. The funding plan calls for a 3.75 percent increase despite cutting spending by $1.01 million dollars as revenues also decreased by $1.13 million. The Manchester Select Board cut nearly every budget in town except for the fire department’s budget.

For show to go on, college theater productions get creative

Copy shortlink: The past 11 months have been challenging for Daniel Weinhagen, a music major at Bethel University without a way to perform. But this past weekend, he stepped in front of a live, socially distanced audience in Bethel s student production of The 1940 s Radio Hour, the university s first since the pandemic began. It s something that s been missing from my life, Weinhagen said. To have live music again and live production has just been incredible. College theater departments across Minnesota have been forced to get creative during the pandemic that has shut down shows from Broadway to local stages in order to keep actors and audiences safe. Shows are being staged outside or in theaters with small audiences, cast members pay particular attention to social distancing, and sometimes, as Bethel s students did, they even work face coverings into the script.
