Gujarat: Over 21,000 killed in road accidents in three years | Vadodara News

Representative image GANDHINAGAR: Over 21,000 people were killed, while more than 46,000 were injured in road accidents in Gujarat in the last three years, till September 2020, the state legislative assembly was informed. As per the data shared by the state home department in the assembly on Wednesday, as many as 21,529 people have died and 46,146 sustained injuries in road accidents in the last three years as on September 2020. With 1,257 casualties, the jurisdiction of Surat rural police recorded maximum number of deaths, followed by Ahmedabad city with 1,075, Valsad with 998, Banaskantha with 971, Vadodara-Rural with 947, Ahmedabad-rural with 923, Bharuch district with 917 and Surat city with 808. At least 2,349 persons were injured in accidents in Kheda district, followed by 2,175 in Surat city, 1,801 in Bharuch, 1,794 in Gandhinagar, 1,726 in Godhra and 1,722 in Vadodara Rural, the data revealed.

The first general board meeting of the newly elected corporators of the civic body has been convened on Wednesday. Ahead of this, elected members of the BJP that has a majority will be meeting at the party office in Sayajigunj. Sources said that with most corporators not having held any key positions in the past, the race was wide open. The number of new Covid-19 cases registered in the city and citizens vaccinated is rising every day at a significant pace now. Data released by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) reveals that the number of cases that used to increase by one or two cases a day has been rising at a significant rate since Monday. Against 47 new cases on Sunday, 52 new cases were reported in the city and district on Monday. On Tuesday, 55 new cases were reported. The number of cases reported on Tuesday is equal to the number of cases reported in the city and district on January 29 when the cases were declining. It took 2,839 tests to identify 55 cases on January 29 but on Tuesday an equal number of cases were detected from much lower 2,446 tests.

Man hangs self, blames wife for torture | Vadodara News

Shishir Darji VADODARA: A 31-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself at his home in Bajwa area on Monday afternoon. Shishir Darji, who stayed in Amrapali Society, took the extreme step when he was alone at his home. The deceased left a two-page suicide note wherein he blamed his wife Monika and in-laws for his suicide. Darji wrote that it is not a suicide but murder. Investigating officials said that they are investigating the role of Darji’s wife and other persons. According to the police, Darji went into his room on the first floor of the house and removed the fan and then hung himself with a sari.

Congress MLAs sought details of the work by the flying squad of mines and minerals department of the government. Providing information, minister Saurabh Patel said that in the past two years, the flying squad of the department carried out 171 raids in 2019 and 127 raids in 2020 to check illegal practices in leases. He added that mining theft of Rs 120.7 crore was detected in 2019 and Rs 91.8 crore theft was detected in 2020.
