LESSONS FROM THE LAND - Turning to the Plants: A Guided Plant Walk through Olana with Antonia Pérez of Herban Cura During this workshop guided by herbalist, educator and founder of Herban Cura, Antonia Estela Pérez, participants will learn about several medicinal and food plants growing in Olana and how we can build mutually regenerative relationships. During this walk through Olana’s artist-designed landscape, Antonia will discuss basic frameworks for how to begin building relationships with the plants. Participants will turn to the plants to learn some of the stories of the land, how they got there, and the messages the plants have to share with us all about the history of settler colonialism and displacement.
Hudson Valley Ramble Historical Tour Join us for a free, one-hour historical tour of Walkway Over the Hudson. Led by trained volunteer Ambassadors, attendees will learn about the park’s past as the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge (the longest in the world when it opened in 1889) as well as its present and future as Walkway Over the Hudson – the World’s Longest Elevated Pedestrian Bridge – while enjoying breathtaking panoramic Hudson Valley views from 212 feet above the Hudson River. Attendees meet at the Walkway’s west gate in Highland prior to departure at 1:00 & should expect to walk 1 mile.
Staatsburg Village Walking Tour This 90-minute walk in the village of Staatsburg will explore the estate’s close relationship with the nearby village and its connection to the Mills family. A guide will discuss historic buildings and highlight hidden locations in the village that demonstrate Staatsburg's vibrant past and the lasting legacy of Ruth and Ogden Mills beyond the estate walls.
