deficit or debt in the long term. they want a trigger, basically something that would snap back the tax rates into play if the economic growth projections didn t match up to what they were looking for. that s senator james lankford, senator jeff flakes. then you have susan collins who a lot of people assumed webe a no from the get go. that s not the case. she s closer to yes. why? she s gotten a commitment than will add the state and property taxes capped. then you have to look at the issues that really kind of bogged this down leading into today, the passthrough rate. people like senator ron johnson, senator steve dayneeigns, they the rates for llcs, partnerships, s-corps to be expanded further. then you have marco rubio, a proponent of expanding the child tax credit. the senate bill does that, but it s not fully refundable. that s what senator marco rubio wants. in closing and why this all matters, a lot of those things
it leaves out key ones, could it be enough to win senate vote? yes, it could. i heard ron johnson saying precisely that on the radio this morning. his concern is that the corporate tax cut takes the rate from 35% down to 20%. it is a huge cut for c-corps, for corporations that are incorporated that way. but for partnerships, proprie r proprietorsh proprietorships, the s-corps, the cut hasn t been as large. that was something ron johnson complained about. now, it is very important to understand that what we re talking about maps directly on to the problems ali was talking about regarding this plan. because the tax cuts for these pass throughs, these alleged small businesses, they re not for mom and pop shops. they re for the richest 10% to 12% of businesses. this makes the plan even more tilted toward the wealthy. jared, what s the answer? what s the way in which you don t end up looking like i mean, this is a wildly unpopular
also following another setback for senate republicans as they scramble to lock down support for the tax overhaul bill under a looming deadline. let s go for phil mattingly up on capitol hill. another gop senator has just joined the list of holdouts. reporter: that s right, senator steve danes of montana. his issue is similar to one we ve heard from senator ron johnson from wisconsin, about passthroughs, small business entities like partnerships or s-corps that pay taxes through the individual side of the tax cut. the proposals have a significant cut for those entities but steve danes and ron johnson say that s not going far enough. they re asking for something that is competing demands for republican leereds at they try to scramble to get these votes. while they want more money to be spend and allow these passthroughs to have a bigger tax cut, that competes with say the red sox who want deficits to be considered, people like jeff flake, people like john mccain, people like bob corker
ainsley: what is your reaction to that? senator flake is not running for reflection. he clearly doesn t support the president. then susan collins she has healthcare that she is concerned with in her state. i m very happy that senator collins is coming forth now and expressing some of the ways she thinks that the bill-out the final bill can be improved, including leaving in some of those provisions from the house bill that she says she personally prefers. we prefer to have those conversations and those debates now than just have somebody show up and be a no vote. that s why the president himself went over to congress last week. that s why my colleagues and i are there nonstop out in the things out. bringing the case to the persoamerican people. taking their input and ideas and reflecting that in this bill. in the end, especially with people like senator johnson who is concerned about small businesses, it comes to explain to me what s in there for small businesses? 25% rate? the lowe
