in this new usa today poll, again, just out this afternoon, brett kavanaugh s underwater by 9 points. only 31% of americans want him confirmed compared with 40% of americans who want him not to be confirmed. that makes him the most unpop already supreme court nominee ever in the history of the usa today poll. he is minus 9 overall. he is minus 20 with women. that includes all women, right? if you look just at political independence, people who aren t registered in either party, he is minus 19 with independence. and as we have seen in this and other major polls, not only is brett kavanaugh s public support at an unprecedented historic low, it appears to be dropping over time the longer they consider him. so tick-tock. i know it s friday night, but you may want to keep the news on over the course of this evening because of that, because of what
important to them, things like the wall and immigration, but what the polling shows is that he doesn t do that well among independents, the real question is where do these middle of the road voters come out. midterms are typically elections when the base shows up on both sides, it s not a high turnout, but if the independents come out they definitely break against the president so the president s unpop later amongst them could drag down republican candidates. let s switch gears and talk about two of the big headlines from last week, the white house is continuing to do damage control over the bob woodward book fear he also had a lot of officials going out to talk about the anonymous new york times op-ed. what kind of tactics could with he see this week to try to downplay some of the book s claims. this book isn t even out yet and has been dominating the conversation for the last week. the white house has a pdf of it as they re trying to figure out who were the biggest leakers to
they ve started that process. it s going to be something. one of the biggest of the world. we also repealed in our tax cut plan, we repealed the most, i guess you could say, unpop yula thing. the individual mandate on obama care. the individual main dandate. how about that one. that s not a very good one. that s where you have the privilege of paying a fortune in order to not pay to have bad health care. think of that. in other words, you pay a lot of money not to have health care. it s not working too good. we got rid of it. that s a big thing. we got no credit but that s okay. that s okay. the flipside for flake, if he tries to shore up his republican base too much, if he tries to make peace with donald trump, makes many gestures to get back in the good graces of donald trump, he s got to worry about a bigger problem in the general election. look at this list. what you see is every republican senator who is up for reelection in 2018, we check their approval and disapproval with all voters in their states. look, they have positive numbers for all of them until you get to the bottom of the list. one republican senator up for reelection in 2018 has a negative rating with the voters in his state. that senator is jeff flake in arizona. arizona s basically a swing state these days. jeff flake is in very serious trouble in the general election and he s potentially in serious trouble in the republican primary, especially if donald trump step understand his campaign against him tonight. that s something we re looking for. why is flake flick out of curiosity, why so seemingly ac
