Back in early 1916, in march or so, gentleman named ferdinand de soto lee, created a nonprofit called the National Memorial association, and its goal was to construct a physical memorial here in the Nations Capital to honor the contributions of negro soldiers and sailors who had fought in every war from the revolutionary war on up until that time. Within a couple years the organization broadened its mission to want to construct what they called a National Memorial building to negro achievement and contributions to america in all fields of endeavor from business to education to the arts, et cetera. I will find another job. Workers at an oakland restaurant are protesting against the owner who is accused of sexually harassing his female employees. Seven managers at the boot and shoe Service Pizzerias said they were going to resign tonight. They said they would quit unless the owner sells the business. So far, it is not clear if they are stepping down. Katie nielsen is outside the restaurant tonight. Reporter employees who worked here at boot and shoe service have been protesting out in front of the restaurant since it opened around five him. We have seen a number of people walking by who have stopped to talk and show support. Tracy owns a furniture business near boot and shoe service. You come across the street and you see people standing out in front of their workplace for a cause that matters to them. It is fabulous. You know, we have spent a lot of time over the last 24 hours talking about the kidnapping suspect but we wanted to take a moment and recognize what Denise Huskins has been through. Over the last few months. The fact is she was knocked off her career path in physical therapy, and also has endured public humiliation. This is a great day but its also a tragic day. Reporter we saw a glimpse of denise and her boyfriend aaron yesterday. A strong young couple after everything they have been through and truth is we had no idea what it was like to be them over the last few months. Its not its the awful crime itself, a masked man invading their home and drugged him and kidnapped and sexual assaulted her. But then after she was released, the police accused her of making the whole thing up. I thought there would be more open arms when they found her. They not only were questioned by the media, but by other individuals. By their employers. By the police. But they questioned themselves at a certain

Located on the National Mall near the washington monument, the museum has quickly become one of the most visited in the Nations Capital with capacity crowds almost every day. After the end of the civil war, African Americans released from their bondage immediately sought about creating their own lives with their own resources. One of the first things many of them tried to do was reconnect with family members who had been separated during slavery. They traveled the country looking for their relatives. They placed ads in newspapers, primarily churchrelated newspapers, seeking to find kinfolk. They wrote letters to the freedmens bureau.
