Julie Wolfe Named KING News Director

The veteran journalist joins Tegna’s Seattle NBC affiliate from the group’s WHAS Louisville, Ky. By Mark K. Miller | May 18, 2021 | 7:56 p.m. ET. Tegna’s NBC affiliate KING Seattle has appointed Julie Wolfe news director, effective June 21. She will be responsible for overseeing the station’s news content across all platforms. Wolfe joins KING from WHAS, Tegna’s ABC affiliate in Louisville, Ky., where she’s been news director since 2018. During her tenure, Wolfe oversaw the relaunches of Wake Up, NightTeam, The Big 4 and the Focus investigative team. Under her leadership, the WHAS team has received multiple regional Emmys, regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, Associated Press awards, and took home the Kentucky Press Photographers Association Award.

Wolfe will be responsible for overseeing the station’s news content across all platforms. Wolfe joins KING 5 from WHAS11, TEGNA’s ABC affiliate in Louisville, KY, where she’s been news director since 2018. During her tenure, Wolfe oversaw the relaunches of Wake Up, NightTeam, The Big 4, and the FOCUS investigative team. Under her leadership, the WHAS11 team has received multiple Emmys®, Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, Associated Press awards, and took home the Kentucky Press Photographers Association Award.

Updated: 11:26 AM PDT May 4, 2021 SEATTLE KING 5, the NBC affiliate in Seattle, has been nominated for a 2020 Peabody Award in the Public Service category for “Facing Race,” a 13-week original series that forthrightly tackled the difficult topic of systemic racism in the Pacific Northwest. “This recognition is a true honor for our team,” said KING 5 interim news director Laura Evans. “Our goal when starting ‘Facing Race’ was to have conversations about race and racial issues with resolve – not backing down from even the toughest of discussions, and our team did just that in a groundbreaking way.” “Facing Race” was nominated by a unanimous vote from the board of jurors. Out of nearly 1,300 entries from around the world, 60 were chosen as nominees and only 30 will be selected as winners.
