The coronavirus pandemic has jeopardized around a quarter of Americans financial security over the past nine months, according to a national survey done by the Pew Research Center.
For about 20 Other Personal Services staff with the University of Florida Performing Arts, that stress is set to continue through late February.
The OPS employees received an email Dec. 22, three days before Christmas, from Brian Jose, director of the Curtis M. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. It said no work shifts would be available to them with UFPA from Jan. 4 to Feb. 22 at the earliest.
It is their second furlough during the pandemic, following UF s initial universitywide closure in March.
