She explained the differences between actual events in the authors life, the little house on the prairie book series, and the television adaptation. The Jefferson County, Missouri Library hosted this event. Good evening, everybody. We are really thrilled to see you here tonight. This is the third and final program in this series. We kept miss fraser very busy for the last two days and weve had wonderful crowds turned out each time. We sold out of the books. It has been really very satisfying. My job tonight [ applause ] is to introduce the two people on the podium who will be conducting this conversation. Jane henderson is the editor at the st. Louis post dispatch. She graduated from st. Louis and graduated from columbia with degrees in journalism and english literature. She cut short her work as a grad student to go to work as a copy editor in the mid 1980s and later, after three years in the newsroom of the hartford in connecticut, she returned to st. Louis and has been an editor and writer with the post dispatch features department for 30 years. As a book editor, she assigns and edits book reviews choosing from some 300 or so new books each week. Shes written stories about book trends and interviewed many authors from sam and rushdie to e. L. Doctorel. So tonight she adds to that and she will be having a conversation with caroline fraser. It opened 15 years ago and was one of the first in the world to begin operations. But couldnt survive the pandemic. Owners tried adapting to the changing guidelines and mandates by the city and the county, but the bills kept stacking up. They say overhead remained the same while loss of membership and limits placed pop them were just too difficult to overcome. Its been part of our lives for so long. The gym held one final workout today, then hosted an open house for people to come and say goodbye. These are the new cases reported today in the bay area. Santa clara county adding 335 cases. Alameda, San Francisco, sonoma countys all adding more than 100 cases. These new cases are pargts of the growing trend across the country. Tonight the United States has more than 11 million covid19 cases. As we mentioned, many bay area counties are tightening restrictions. Right now indoor operations in San Francisco are scaled back. Starting tuesday, marin, contra costa, santa clara counties, theyre all going to do the same. Some restrictions in Contra Costa County are being tightened even further, especially when it comes to indoor gyms.
