Attack on the Kerending camps in December 2019 that left at least 80 dead (RD)
The West Darfur Doctors Committee revealed that another 37 people have been killed and another 59 wounded since Tuesday morning, bringing the total number of deaths caused by the recent tribal clashes in the state capital El Geneina to 87 and the total number of injuries to 191. Yesterday saw calm somewhat restored but the situation remains tense.
The people of El Geneina explained that they suffer severely under the continuing violence and described the situation as ‘‘tragic’’. They said that people were unable to treat the wounded because of the lack of security and it remained impossible to transfer a large number of the bodies to the morgue.

Hundreds of militants launched an attack on Abu Zur camp in El Geneina yesterday. It was the third day of violence in the West Darfur capital, despite the state of emergency declared by the state governor yesterday.
Witnesses said that houses have been torched again yesterday. Radio Dabanga has so far been unable to confirm details regarding the number of victims.
The West Darfur Doctors Committee said that by Tuesday morning another 32 people were killed and 78 others were injured. In its second report about the violence, the committee stated that the wounded and injured are receiving medical care in El Geneina Teaching Hospital, El Naseem Clinic and other hospitals. A number of injured people need to be evacuated to Khartoum for surgery that is not possible in El Geneina.

Smoke could be seen to rise from El Geneina as tribal fighting continues (social media)
The United Nations revealed today that 56 people have been killed and 132 others were injured in the continuing clashes that erupted on Saturday evening in the state’s capital El Geneina. The wali (governor) of West Darfur expects a state of emergency and a curfew to be imposed in the city.
Thousands are fleeing the fighting and at least one rocket-propelled grenade hit a hospital whilst another hit a UN compound.
People from El Geneina told Radio Dabanga that the sound of heavy fighting and explosions continued for the second day in a row yesterday. They said that the sound came from southern, eastern, and western areas of the city and that houses are burnt in the areas around the Kerending camps.

A delegation of the Security Council arrived in El Fasher, North Darfur, yesterday. The delegation will visit the region to investigate and address security concerns. In the South Sudan capital Juba, founder and leader of the mainstream Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-AW) Abdelwahid El Nur announced the launch of a national initiative to address the roots of the security crisis through a national dialogue.
Upon its arrival, the delegation held a meeting with the state government and the state security committee to discuss the security situation in the state, the gradual exit process of the joint United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), the requirements for the voluntary return of the displaced, and the role of the African Union in Sudan’s democratic transition.
